130 West 9th Avenue

This is the first urban renewal project taken on by Res Publica Rationis. Before the commonwealth started work, this was a dumping ground for garbage and used drug parphenalia; the commonwealth is converting it into cropland.

Overview

This site, left to ruin for a period of years, is now being revitalized by the commonwealth. Pictured above is the plan of the cropland as it is currently envisioned.

Some of the layout is actually realized at the present time. The spring bulbs are planted, two of the 2' paths are paved with reclaimed brick, and two of the 3'x3' planting beds are defined with edging blocks. I am hoping that there will be sufficient funding to define the remaining 3'x3' beds and plant three of them in garlic and onion before the snows come.

I have a general idea of how the remainder of the garden will be planted, but there is room for revision during the winter. I am hoping that climate will co-operate and allow spring planting around mid-May. The hope is that, by July, the site will look better than the dump it has been, and will provide dinner, as well.
